History: Over five decades Bandel has been the cradle where vocations to the Salesian Society have been carefully nurtured. Though the Salesian Community was formally established in 1933, initially it busied itself with the activities of the centuries-old Bandel Church. In 1936 after the Novitiate in Shillong was destroyed by fire, it was temporarily established at Bandel, thus beginning the long history of formation work in this house.
In 1938 with the opening of Salesian College, Sonada, the Novitiate was transferred there. Later, on 15 January 1940 an apostolic school for training young boys for religious life was established in the old 'Quintine House', with Fr. Joseph Bacchiarello as Rector. Due to World War II, the boys were shifted to Sonada (Darjeeling) on 3 March 1941. The apostolic school at Bandel was restarted in 1951 by Fr. Piasescki. The present spacious building was blessed in 1967.
The Seminary had its own Government recognized school which was called "Our Lady's Higher Secondary School". In response to the appeals of the local population, since 1978 day scholars too began to be admitted in this school. Later the name of the school was changed to Don Bosco School and the affiliation was changed from the Madhyamic Board to the Delhi Board for ICSE and ISC. When the apostolic school was shifted to Azimganj in 1987, only Post-Matric boys were admitted to this Seminary. In 1999 the premises of the Seminary were re-organized and the primary section was opened in a portion of it.
Today: We have a Minor Seminary for those who wish to join the Salesian Society, with 43 boys, an English Medium School for boys from K.G. to Class XII catering to 1752 boys, and a School Social Action group for the needy.
The school promotes also extracurricular activities in the form of Science Club, Scouting, and YCS and the Friends youth Movements.
