History:
The Parish of St. Theresa of the Child Jesus, Sonada, the first Salesian parish for the Nepalese, was carved out of St. John's Parish, Kurseong, and handed over to the Salesians in perpetuity by the Late Bishop Eric Benjamin of Darjeeling on 1 August 1963. It is spread over a vast area of 18 villages, of which 12 are in the tea gardens and the man behind this development is Fr. Luigi Jellici, a zealous mountain missionary. Sonada became a full-fledged parish in 1996. From the beginning the parish was an activity of Salesian College, Sonada. Since January 1998, however, the parish has an identity of its own with separate premises, "Bosco Niwas", inthe town of Sonada, although the resident pastors are attached to the Salesian College community. A sub-station at Dhajea has also been developed since a few years.

The villages of the parish are grouped together in 8 Basic Christian Community (BCC) units. It is the BCC, begun in 1998, which is the backbone of the parish. The main activities are parish pastoral care, educational sponsorship of poor children and tuition classes organized in the substations of Balasun, Margaret's Hope, Dhajea, Sangma, Rangmuk and Sukhiapokri. There is also a dispensary at Dhajea looked after by the MSMHC Sisters.

The parish has 9 subcentres and a flourishing Christian community. The Community of Salesian College lend a hand in the pstoral care of the parish.
