History:
On 28 May 1980 the Province of Kolkata opened its own Novitiate. Till then the novices were going to Shillong for their religious training. The Novitiate was temporarily housed at the mission centre at Polsondamore. In June 1981 the Novitiate was shifted to its present and permanent site at Siliguri. The new house named "Nazareth Bhavan" was blessed on 2 June 1981. The name suggests that this community is to provide an ideal family environment for the young men to launch out seriously on their Salesian and religious experience. The novice is expected to take personal responsibility for his formation in an atmosphere of freedom.
Although from time to time novices from other provinces have been sent to Siliguri, the Novitiate caters mainly to the novices of Kolkata and New Delhi Provinces. The novices engage themselves also in neighbourhood apostolate especially on Sundays.
