History:
The Parish of Don Bosco was begun in 1980 and entrusted to the Salesians in perpetuity in 1990. As there was practically no facility for education in the tea gardens, the Savio Youth Centre was begun in 1979 as a boarding for the poor boys from the tea gardens. In 1983 the MSMHC Sisters arrived to help in the parish and in 1998 they started a boarding for girls. In the beginning the children used to attend the Night School of Don Bosco, but later a Primary School was started for them at Savio Youth Centre in the parish compound. The present Don Bosco Shrine was blessed in 1993. The year 2005 marks the beginning of the opening of a new Parish at Oodlabari where a school hostel, and other parish infrastructure is to come up.
There are about 6000 parishioners in the parish which has 14 sub-stations, mainly in the tea gardens. Pastoral care, education and developmental work are the main areas of activities of the two pastors of the parish, who are attached to the Don Bosco religious community.
