History:
In 1836, the Capuchins had started work in Purnea among the indigo planters. In 1887 the mission changed hands and the Jesuits came to the scene. The Salesians, headed by Fr. Gimenez, took over the work there when it was entrusted to them on 31 May 1981. For the purpose of providing education to the youth of the locality the Salesians opened a Hindi medium school. The new building was blessed on 24 January 1983 by Bishop Telesphore of Dumka. The Middle School was established in 1984, and it was upgraded in 1987 to a High School. A hostel for the tribal children was started in 1987. A non-formal technical school was established in 1990 to impart vocational training to the youth of the locality. The house was canonically erected in 1993. In 1998 Purnea parish was made the cathedral parish of the newly established Purnea Diocese and was handed over to the diocese. The students of the school appear for the Bihar Board Examination through a recognized School. From 2001 the school is seeking affiliation to the CBSE Board, New Delhi.

At present the house is purely an educational institution: non-formal and academic. It caters to the lower middle class and the poorer sections of the society through its educational services. The school has about 840 students with 20 teachers. In the Non-formal training centre about 40 young boys and girls receive a vocational training in typing and tailoring. The Hostel houses about 80 High school tribal students from the neighbouring parishes.
