History:
A new apostolic school aimed at the training of Bengali and Santal students who showed an aptitude to join the Salesian Society came into existence within the premises of Don Bosco Welfare Centre, Azimganj in 1985. Savio Bhavan, a separate hostel, was begun on 19 March 1987 with Fr. Joseph Gomes as its first Rector. The boys attend Don Bosco School, Azimganj.
The objectives of this period of training are the human, intellectual and Christian maturation of the boys in view of their vocational discernment and suitability for Salesian life. Through group activities and other cultural programmes the intellectual formation of the boys and their leadership skills are promoted. At the completion of matriculation those who express the desire to become Salesians are sent to Don Bosco Mirpara for an year of intense study of English.
Today:
This year (2005) due to paucity of boys the apostolic boys have been sent to Don Bosco Krishnagar. Since the Prenovitiate in Auxilium Parish needed a change of venue, as also the aspiranatate at Mirpara, Howrah, these two have been temporarily transferred to Savio Bhavan ad experimentum for at least one year.
