History: Kalyani was originally a part of Ranghat parish. It was separated from Ranaghat and established as a Parish independently on 24 May 1979 with four sub-stations. The residence of the Parish Priest was built by Fr. Francis Vadakkan and blessed on 24 May 1981. A boarding for boys too was started simultaneously. The foundation stone of the present majestic church was blessed by Bishop Lucas Sirkar on 31 January 1990. The Church was blessed on 1 March 1991. The extension of the boarding was built by Fr. Mathew Chiriyankandath and inaugurated on 15 August 2001.
The parish is attached to the Don Bosco Vidyanikatan Religious Community. The Salesian Brothers in formation at Don Bosco Vidyaniketan also lend a hand in the pastoral care of the people through Neighbourhood apostolate and Oratories. Village development activities through educational scholarships, Associations like St. Vincent de Paul Society, Don Bosco Club, Sodality of Mary Help of Christians, Krishnagar Diocesan Catholic Association, Bangiya Krishteeya Pariseba, and Krishto Biswasi Parishad form part of the activities of the parish. |
