History: Don Bosco Vidyaniketan is a centre for the post-novitiate formation and studies for the Salesian Brothers. The institute was first started originally at Don Bosco, Tengra, Kolkata in 1977. The first National Conference of the Salesian Brothers held at Bandel from 28 to 31 December 1981, discussed seriously the idea of a permanent centre for the formation of the Salesian Brother. Consequently on 1 January 1982 Fr. Joseph Kezhakkekara, the then Provincial of Calcutta, blessed the foundation stone of Don Bosco Vidyaniketan (a Sanskrit word meaning "Abode of Learning") at Kalyani, 55 km away from Kolkata. On 13 June 1982 the Brothers moved out of Tengra to their new House. Fr. Thomas Polackal was the first Rector of the Community. Since then more than 180 Brothers from India and abroad have been enrolled for the post-novitiate studies. | |
