Don Bosco Dharan started with a Tuition centre and then added on a Computer Centre and a Boarding. Later on other educational and social projects were taken on.
The Tuition Centre started in 1993. The students attending the nearby Nepali medium school, are provided tuition in various subjects at this centre. The centre also provides recreational facilities. On Friday afternoon various activities are organized to develop the talents of the children. There are over 200 children receiving help for their education at the centre.
The computer centre was opened for the youth of Dharan on 8 August 1997. The centre offers courses in computer to students at affordable fees, even though quality training is emphasised. The enrolled students have great appreciation for the centre.
With the Boarding the poor children of remote villages are provided a home away from home, from where they can attend school. This venture was initiated in 1999. From the first batch of nine students the number increased to 16 in two years. These children attend government schools and they are given special evening tuition.
EDUCATIONAL & SOCIAL PROJECTS AND AID: The space and the resources of the Institute are well utilized for various social projects and animation programmes for the Youth. The Don Bosco Community looks after the substations of Itahari, Chakkarghatti, Biratnagar and Sirsia with various educational and social uplift programmes. In Sirsia a primary school has been opened to educate the poorest children belonging to the Dalit and Santhal communities of the area. The centre also extends educational help to the poor children of the neighbourhood through sponsorship schemes.
DANFE YOUTH CLUB: In the millennium year, the youth organized themselves into a thirty-member strong youth club under the Don Bosco banner. They have regular meetings, various activities and animation and orientation sessions on a variety of topics. They involve themselves in serving the poor and the needy irrespective of caste, creed and colour.
